Has anybody Ran 12" HO? (RSS315HO-4)

Parts Express is stating .98 tuned to 36hz (maybe this is geared towards home audio use?)

I have a pair heading my way, should be here Monday..

Just wondering if anybody has ran the SVC 12's and what size enclsoure they went with?

This sub does work well in small boxes. I put one in 1 cube tuned to 30 hz. If you listen to a lot of rap I’d make it a little bigger, maybe 1.2 -1.5 tuned in the low 30s. The guy I built the box for listened to country and classic rock, so I made the box on the smaller side. Not a bad sub at all in smaller ported boxes.

I like those subs. Dayton typically seems to be more home theater style woofers, but their small subs will play low, relative to other woofers at the same power levels.

Back in the day PE did recommend 1.29 or so for these but they changed it at some point.

I did 2 of them in like 1.9 cubes or something and the customer stated they really liked it, but the woofers were a little too low end heavy. I think the tuning was like 30 hz. But even tuned higher, these subs still seem to be low end oriented.

Any HT-designed subs tend to have fairly low Fs's, at least compared to similarly powered popular car audio subs. That's a general statement, but tends to be true. I would run these subs if you like stronger low-end bass. These subs have an Fs of 26.2 Hz from what I see, which means this little 10 will play low notes, will be oriented more towards low notes, etc.

I would encourage you to check out this sub from Dayton: https://www.daytonaudio.com/product/1118/um12-22-12-ultimax-dvc-subwoofer-2-ohm-per-coil

@Buck yes I've heard the ultimax my buddy has a 15" good sub but the box is huuuge!

I still have the HO 10's in the center console you designed for me and it sounds pretty good but anytime I mention this setup people say the box is too small.. The box is 1.05 tuned to 33hz for the pair and everyone says .75 per sub would be way better?

The only reason I got the pair of 12's is they were dirt cheap.. 180.00 for the pair new in the boxes..

I don't remember your box; you'd have to refresh me. Subs will typically work in a variation of boxes. If it sounds good to you, that's really all that matters. I forget what limitations or what we were aiming for with yours. Why I do the airspaces I do is complicated, sometimes. I guess the only way to know which volume you'd like better is to try both.

You did this design earlier this year, we spoke on the phone and discussed the music I listen to etc.
I still have the sketches and design saved.

The box like I said sounds good but certain songs not so much..
Take Too Short "livin way too real" this song sounds superb in my other vehicle on a pair of JL 10w3v2 on the dayton setup it's sounds bad..

Another song is Too Short "No love from Oakland" same results as above.. When playing on the Jl's it sounds very clean and the bass is strong, With the Daytons in the console box it sounds like a sub is wired out of phase (it is not)

The daytons do play alot of songs great and I noticed the kick drums are tight and clean.

It seems like the Jl's will play anything I throw at them great, Guess I'm hoping to get the same results with these 12's

My thoughts exactly when I ran the Dayton 10’s. I didn’t really give them a chance because due to my improper measurements, my drivers seat sat up too far.

When I run the parameters through software it recommends .9 @ 30 hz

I listen to mostly heavy metal and classic rock, but I slip Too Short into my music list myself sometimes. I’d go 1.3 at 30-32 hz with the HO 12s for my personal box, from what I see in software. If I were to build a box for someone who listens to almost all rap and R&B, I’d push it up to 1.5 cubes @ 32 HZ. The old guy I did the box for listened to a lot of old country and 60s and 70s classic rock, so I did 1 cube at 30 hz (plus he had a big concern over space yet insisted on a 12).

Cabin gain also matters. A single cab pickup will do better with a small ported box over the same small ported box in the back of a suburban. In a larger vehicle, I would probably bump the box volume up just a tad.

I have Dayton 10's in a 1994 Ext Cab Chevy and The Jl 10's are in a 2002 GMC Envoy.

I was thinking I would try the dayton 12's in the SUV so box size wouldn't be an issue if the volume were to be bumped up a bit.

I do listen to rap mainly and mostly older stuff Mac Dre, Lynch hung, Ant Banks, Geto boys etc..

I’d do the 12 in 1.6 cubes @32 hz in your envoy personally. Either sub up, port back…or, sub back and port back. I’ve never really heard an audible difference between doing it either way.
