Im looking at the Dayton audio RF 15, 500w reccomended sealed volume is 2.88, we are stuck with prefab due to budget but I found a box with 2.5cu ft each sub. Is that enough or will I be choking out the subs?
Goal is sql, they equally value SPL and sq, I figured the Dayton rf bc of the high sensitivity and low power rating with decent xmax for the price. (We are stuck with 800w of power)

It looks like you've chosen a sealed enclosure that is slightly smaller than the recommended volume for your Dayton Audio RF 15 subs. While the recommended volume is 2.88 cubic feet, the 2.5 cubic feet per sub might work, but it could potentially limit the performance, particularly in terms of low frequency extension and overall output. You'll likely still achieve a decent balance of SPL and SQ, but you may lose some low-end extension and some efficiency. If your budget allows, going with the recommended size would be ideal.

The bigger problem is that the enclosure is made of 5/8 mdf. I would want a minimum of 3/4 mdf for 15 inch subs. With 5/8 you are begging for panel flex and rattling issues.

This would probably be your best bet. 5/8 mdf is a no go even with lower power 15's
thanks man thats a good box fs, it was late last night I didnt even see it was 5/8.
what do you think of this box as a way to save money? we are a little over what we wouldve liked to be at budget wise but ya lmk what you think

That's gonna be 5/8 too

Unless it's a used box...there ain't many option for a solid box for 2 15's under $250ish.

You could try contacting Absolute and asking them to confirm the wood thickness. It says 3/4” in the description, but 5/8” in the specs. They also sell that model box through Walmart and they state 3/4" there. My main concern with many of the prefabs is not being glued / built well. I've seen a ton that would rattle at the joints, especially the cheaper ones. Fairly simple to squirt a little glue in and some finish nails or screws, I've fixed many to make them work okay. Of course this may not be an issue with it at all.

Maybe also check facebook marketplace and offerup, or even craigslist for local second hand bargains.

What Dayton subs exactly??

The Dayton HO 15" works great in 1.5 Cuft sealed.
I’m stuck on 5-700w. He wants equal SPL SQ so I was thinking 2 15s but the classic 15 is what I was looking at but the recommended airspace for it is 3.8 cu ft I might js make another thread for recommendations

Keep in mind the box size recommendation for dayton subs are geared towards home theater use. In a car the cabin gain will allow a smaller box.
