Ok so first please no snobby answer I will ignore you. Here my questions. So I have a 2017 honda lxs it sounds ok I guess. I came into some cash and i wanna make it sound better. Now I am a few years removed from audio. I had a Nakamichi head unit jl speakers audiobahn subs hifonics amps etc in a car years ago. I miss the sound. Now at home I use edifier airpulses in my room and nad and Paradigm speakers for my living room. My point is i do like music to sound good. So I was pondering this build: keeping my head unit(not gonna change it period) so I need some good amps I was thinking jl audio amp and focal speakers. Maybe an alpine pre amp. There is a technical name for this unit. It gets rid of the heavy EQ that's done by my Honda head unit. One is this necessary or a waist of money. So I think I will do components up front and a nice set of 2 ways in the rear. Now I have been thinking about fabing 8s into the rear doors. Or would a really good ten in the trunk be better. I dont care about bass i mean I do but I dont need to shake the doors. I listen to zeppelin floyd pearl jam lumineers some tupac but mostly folk music very eclectic. Any ideas please pass them along i am working on a 1700 dollar budget give or take a couple hundred.

I would do a single 10-12 in the trunk. Fabbing the 8’s in the doors will take a lot of work and deadening. I used the JL Fix (fixes the stick signal) and JL TwK D8 (dsp) and really enjoyed them. There are others out there but I have no experience with them.

A lot of people use the JL Fix only since it has some tunability but I’d recommend the DSP as it just helps so much (but it’ll take a lot of time and effort). I got a stupid good deal on mine over at DIYMA.

Not as good as the deal I got :D

But yeah the DSP is the way to go. I would look into the DSP/Amplifier combo as it would fit most of what you are looking for. Watch DIYMA for some of those as they go on sale used all the time.

Actually a lot of DSP's these days are not expensive. 300 or so for a Rockford Fosgate which is nice or the amplifier ones start at around 500 or so but you have it built in and they go up from there. Helix, Audiocontrol and so on.

The fix will fix the stock signal so you will be getting a flat signal to your amps. The dsp allows you to tune the sound. I actually currently don’t run a dsp only because I don’t have the time to properly tune it. Once I get some free time back on a regular basis, I will be installing one.

The JL stuff is expensive new but you can find them used and creativeaudio has refurbs sometimes.

The Fix actually does more tuning than I thought. Guy on DIYMA is selling one for $300.

One or two, they are still subwoofer outs and are mono summed signals from both left and right. Even the 2 RCA subwoofer pre-outs on the 2nd one...

Nothing to add to this, Just wanted to say good luck and that I miss MiniDisc. OH!! Is that a Japanese Radio Tuner or does it get stations in the US?

That would be fantastic! Id love to see the skills involved here. It always intrigues me to see some customizing from small and detailed to large...
