Think this would work? neighbor wants to get 5 - 10 gallons of silicone roof coating and coat the inside of his vehicle. Says the stuff is basically a bucket of silicone instead of a tube, dries roughly 60-80 mil thick 1 $100 5 gal bucket will do 250 sq ft with 2 coats. He used it on his metal roof over the 3 season porch, it went from deafening in a rain Storm to hardly noticeable. And is dramatically cooler in the summer,

And is dramatically cooler in the summer,
I have actually used this kind of product and customers said the same thing. And since it is meant to be in direct contact with the elements, I can see it lasting years within the confines of a vehicle. It does seem like legit alternative. Only drawback I can foresee is the messy application process. You would have to be careful not to cover the weep holes in the bottom of the door, and painting the ceiling sounds challenging, but not impossible. I like it.

What I was thinking is gut the vehicle first layer CLD second layer closed cell foam with the tinfoil third layer silicone fourth layer Mass loaded vinyl and then put into your interior back together, I would imagine that all together that would be fairly well soundproofed. Could go one step farther and mix rubber crumbs in the silicone (read a few studies conducted on the soundproofing qualities of rubber crumb

I doubt it would honestly, I've never smelt silicone again once it was dry,, or cured. At that point its pretty much inert but that first day would be rough

You need to find out what temperature that the silicone reactivates. I know someone who used cheap bathroom tile sealer to seal a subwoofer box. Any hot day for the next 6 months the inside of his car smelt like sealer. He finally just got tired of the smell and built a new box.

The roof is off for much of the summer, and when it's on the AC will be running. It's a matter of how hot it gets while sitting, that I'm unsure of as I haven't owned it in a summer yet.

Why no? This topic actually has me interested as a way to coat the exposed roof panels on my jeep. They make sound "liner kits", but they don't cover everything and looks weird. If there was a nice coating I could lay on it instead that would be great.

This is the whole Peal n Seal ordeal all over again. Makes a huge mess and has zero sound dampening properties other than adding mass to a panel.
