I converted those to inches and ran the numbers, its beyond terrible, absolutely trash bottom of the barrel piece of **** box.Ah okay, it’s 1.75 cu ft which meets the spec of the sub, I’m not certain it’s tuned as low as 35hz though which is where it needs to be
Well in all honesty I’m already running the box with a pioneer sub and it sounds wicked! I paid about £50 for it so it wasn’t a cheap box, just wanted an idea of the tuning, 45hz is okay, I wanted to go a little lower ideally so I may be in the market for another box soon, what makes you say it’s garbage?I converted those to inches and ran the numbers, its beyond terrible, absolutely trash bottom of the barrel piece of **** box.
With it being a slot port, and the dimensions they give, its 1.75 GROSS cubic feet. What does that mean? i means its just the total box size which is absolutely garbage. The important number is NET cubic feet which is after you factor in how much space the port takes up and how much space the subwoofer motor takes up. You are closer to 1.25 cubic feet tuned to 45hz with that box. Stay the **** away.
you think your sub is good right now... but wait till you hear a proper box with proper airspace. You are choking most subs with this kind of box. However your pioneer might be one of those that are okay with tiny boxes but you will be missing a huge chunk of bandwidth and your bass is peaky and not reaching full potential at all of the sub.Well in all honesty I’m already running the box with a pioneer sub and it sounds wicked! An example of a single 12 on 500 watts in a proper box.
i mean SA 12 is good but i'm sure you have access to alpine type Rs or Vibe Audio(UK based spl company) which has slightly similar performance capabilities to the SA 12. See which is cheaper.Yeah that makes complete sense, I haven’t really heard many high quality systems as you describe them, it’s hard to get hold of stuff in the UK, I’m looking at getting a sundown sa12 classic shipped from the US and a box custom built soon though

Makes sense, thank you!And if it were that good you wouldn't be here itching to actually get loud.
Seriously almost every manufacturer lies about how much space you can cram their subs into because most consumers are ignorant hoodrats that will buy the most cone area that someone tells them they can cram the most of in their trunk and virtually none of them will ever know any better.
I can't speak for Pioneer subs but I'm betting even that would do better in more volume with more port area and I'd look to tune 37-40hz rage for music (tune down to 32hz if you play that slowed down **** or bass test songs).
I'd also vouch for Type R being very capable, throw a 12" type R into 2.75 cubic foot net tuned to 38hz with 8" round port and it'll knock your socks off.
Yeah I see what you mean, thank you!I've noticed that if you are forced to pre-fab that the boxes are going to be too small. It's usually best to buy a box one size up. For a single 12" you should buy a pre-fab for a single 15". Then, just screw on a piece of 3/4" mdf and cut the 12" hole. I had a single XFL 12" and bought a pre-fab for a single solobaric 12". It tore my 3 series comvertible up. Just a thought.
That's actually a half decent solution though I'd say you'd want to seal off whatever slot port is there and make your own round port out of sono-tube or PVC pipe or something.Yeah I see what you mean, thank you!

If you don't mind my asking, why is it that nobody in the UK ever seems to own tools or knows a friend with woodworking tools? Your story is pretty much the same as every UK guy I've ever seen. Can't get access to much gear, it's all hugely expensive, and nobody is building boxes.
Lack of a good variety of equipment is one thing but like NOBODY seems to have a skill saw, jig saw, router, and drill to build a box even. You could absolutely get loud and sound good with some of the stuff you can get over there if you could build proper boxes. It’s a good question, car audio is a much bigger thing over in the US than in the Uk, I bore my mates completely with it because they can’t see the point. Most Uk people think that the bass from their stock speakers in their Nissan micra is mad bass! Most people who have subwoofers get these really cheap ones from Halfords which can’t play below 50hz very well, finding and sourcing boxes seems to be difficult over here and the Us seems to have much more of a market it for it!
