Changing out Subwoofers

Well you're literally on an internet forum that's discussion/topic is subwoofer options.......

TC wants dual 12s and the amazon listing is dual 10s.

SSA store is the only authorized store that has both versions of the 12s in stock. The XRs are literally 5 more dollars
I was commentating humorously. I agree. Haven’t haven’t overpaid for an ab from an “authorized”
Dealer yet and haven’t had a problem.

Actually I can beat that even more on eBay for the TNT's 105 with shipping each.

I think I am down to the SSA Demon's, the American Bass TNT's along with the XR series & the Soundqubed HDS 3.1 (if they ever come back that is)

I looked at the XD's and they sound good from what I have seen.

At this point I am just torn on whether to go 2 10" or go 2 12" and which means buy the 2nd one next month which is fine. Gives me time to figure out the box with some help from you guys and hopefully shredder as well.

I really do appreciate all the help, input & time you guys have done. Every little bit helps me!

for ported, think 2.5- 3.5
cubes of cargo space consumed for 10’s and 4-5 cubes For 12’s. You’ll shoukd still
Have room for groceries After 5 cubes

Authorized is for sure the way to go

American Bass has a long track record of unauthorized sellers selling B stock disquised as regular stock, shipping the wrong resistence, or by far the most common selling an outdated version that's 1 if not 2 revisions behind the current model.

Add in no warranty (which is actually a strong point of AB) and it's not usually worth the savings to be honest, especially if you can avoid it

For now I might possibly be but I plan on an amp upgrade to a 1500-2000 watt amp. Idk if you have seen the testing those PPI 1000.1 have done but 1600 watts at 1ohm max when they are rated for 1000. This was done a few times by the testers that do this all the time. It will be at it's max for now but with an amp upgrade in 2-3 months it should be fine until then as long as I don't push them too hard.

If that's the case, then get two XFL1044 and then buy a Taramps Smart3k.

So factoring your timeline to upgrade amps I think the tnt’s or xd’s would be good in either size, whatever you can find and whatever space you’re willing to sacrifice. And good to break subs in conservatively.

Lol, I knew you were gonna do it

Eventually, I still like the XD's with his current amp. But, If he wants to get a bigger amp, then he might as well get the XFL's. Amp wise he could go different directions depending on his electrical. I still want to hear from somebody who has tried out the Orion XTR2500.1dz. I had one, but never had it installed. The people on here talked me into selling it. They told me that my 95 amp alternator couldn't run it. 95 amp is the biggest alternator that they make for my car.

you never look at the dynamic numbers. Only look at certified and its 1200 before box rise. Also if you have room for two 12s, you have room for one 15. Two 12s has more cone area and needs more airspace than a 15 but two woofers will cost more. You can have a single woofer like a soundqubed HDX3 15 or american bass xfl 15 and you'll be good. Might not even need to upgrade your amp.

Also Just build the box out of 3/4 and use wooden dowels to brace thoroughly. Makes no sense to use 1 inch. You'll reclaim a lot of real estate and have even stronger box integrity.

Yeah I should have posted that instead of the dynamic...doh! Been thinking on this all night and I hate making decisions like this as I don't want to regret anything with such limited income.

If I do this it is going to be 2 10" subs I think. Less space overall in ported still some decent sound overall for how much I drive which is between 2000-3000 miles a year. Sometimes I go 2-3 weeks without driving or I only drive 30 miles round trip to the grocery store north of here. So I guess putting in 2 12" subs or 1 15" sub probably isn't worth the effort.

So it is either the SSA Demons or the American Bass TNTs. I think this way I can keep the current amp a little longer then say the 2-3 months and do it after the new year when I get taxes back.

Going from 1 SD-10 in a sealed enclosure to a single Demon 12d2 ported should be a BIG difference I feel, Your current power ought to be about right to wake that 12 up. I'd shy away from multiple subs if going that route.
One 12 done right will be a rather large improvement over that sealed 10

Shredder2 has been a HUGE help in all this. He simulated both subs for me and we came to the decision that the TNTs are going to work just fine! So I am ordering those once he is done with the box as he is doing that now.

I still plan on upgrading the amp which I am looking at ideas now for the future. Figuring around 200-250 for that once I am able to do it and of course 2k to 3k would be awesome. I've heard Taramps some people have issues others don't.

15 or 18 is too big. I still want to have some room for groceries. I did a quick mock up on a ported for a pair VCW124s and that is the biggest I can go.

And I have everything else I just need to pick up a new sub/s. I can go that price range for each. If I go 2 I will just buy one this month and wait till next to get the 2nd one. I live on disability for life so I have to manage my $$$ as best as possible and after bills that is what I have to spend this month on a upgrade.
Hate to break it to you, but you really don't have enough space to do a pair of 12s in adequate airspace. You'd do better buying a good quality 12" in a proper box than getting a couple gutter brands and jamming them in too little airspace. Or if you're dead set on having 2 of something consider 10" version if whatever you're looking at.
