Hey guys,

I've seen a couple posts that are kinda similar to this but slightly different so I'm gonna post my situation and hope that someone here has some ideas. I spent the whole yesterday wiring an amp to a sub, I carefully looked at every step and everything is in the position it needs to be. However I am not getting a voltage reading on the speaker outputs. I was getting 12-13V from both the REM and power wire. The light turns on as it should when the car turns on, but I'm not getting any reading from my speaker output and the sub is not producing any sound whatsoever. If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated!

Disconnect the sub from the amplifier and see if the protect light goes off. If that light is on the amplifiers protection circuit will not allow it to produce sound.

If that allows the light to go off, your sub may be the issue. Trouble shoot the sub by checking how the voice coils are wired to determine its ohm load. Is your amp able to run that load.

Test the voice coil(s) are they reading correct?

If the light is still on after the sub is disconnected you may have a stray strand of wire on the power terminals or an internal issue with your amplifier.

Did some research and finally found out that the light staying green simply indicates the power on. Therefore I guess the problem must be in the sub. I got it from a guy who said it worked the last time he used it and it’s in a box so will I need to take that apart? If so, I have a multimeter if that’s of any use, but I’m not very knowledgeable with voice coils...

THX ONE gave you good suggestions. sorry if I just add something common sense, I don't mean to give dumb answers but sometimes I've found I brain fart and troubleshoot for hours because I missed something stupid.
one time I almost returned an amp because I was getting power input but no output on the mono speaker wire connections.
turns out my dumb ass had the sub turned off at the radio
if you have power on remote and 12v I would remove the speaker wires from the amp and play with the gain and test if you're getting voltage out.
If you aren't and you have an aftermarket deck hooked to RCA'S, double check your radio settings that sub woofer is on (depending how you wired your remote. you could still get remote power with RCA'S not putting out a signal. )
if that's good. check for voltage on the RCA'S
if using high input then just check if those wires have voltage.
try hooking a fresh set of
rcas to your phone or another source with an adapter and see if you get voltage.
make sure lpf is at 80 and ssf all the way down.

if that doesn't fix it then you're gonna have to pull the sub and check the ohm readings of the coils.
if the coils are far off of their intended resistance their blown.
if the coils are good, the last guy could also have the box wired to a load that your amp doesn't support.
look up how to wire your specific sub to the ohm load that your amplifier is rated for. and test again to see if you get sound.
if none of that works I'm not qualified enough to help you. Don't know much about bad amps. never had one.

Got it working properly!!! Turns out I had to crank multiple different bass outlets in order to actually hear it working (bass boost setting on radio, LPF and bass boost on amp). Additionally, I discovered that the green light means power on and it turns amber when it is in protection mode. To sum it up, I'm kind of an idiot. Anyway, thanks for everybody's help!!!

you shouldn't have to crank boosts to hear it. if it works fine for you then i'm happy for ya. just keep in mind bass boost is generally considered a no no. so there's something wrong there. i'm thinking low signal voltage.

Yeah, put the probes on the power wire and ground wire of the amplifier. Multimeter on DC. Do not put it on the wires that go to your speakers. M
