Some questions about generic radio delete panels and cubby pockets.

Hi everyone, this is my first post here and I'm hoping some of you can help clear up some questions I have. I have a 90 Miata I'm about to install a used Blaupunkt mech-less head unit into. The car had it's factory stereo in it which I've already pulled, leaving a double DIN size opening in my dash. I'd like to install the new radio at the top, and then either a cover plate or cubby shelf underneath it.

What I'm wondering is, is it fairly easy to adapt a cubby or plate that wasn't specifically designed for a Miata? Finding an exact match has proved nearly impossible and the opening in the dash doesn't look very specific to me, so I was thinking I could buy a generic cubby like the one in the link below, and simply adapt it as needed so it would work in my car. I'm confident I can install the head unit itself with no issues. What do you guys/gals think? I'm open to suggestions as well, but basically want to do it cheaply and have it look fairly factory clean when finished. Thanks!

I just installed the best kits bkmm1 in my 95 Miata and it came out pretty nice. Alot cleaner than the metra kit I tried to use before
