I want to upgrade my bass but I'm not sure what I'll need to upgrade electrical wise in order to do so. I want to run the taramps md8k (1 ohm stable) amplifier wired to 2 ohms. I currently have a 240 amp alternator, an optima redtop, 0 guage ofc big 3, 1 run of ofc 0 gauge, and a battery that my installer told me was a 1200 watt battery. Any help is appreciated helping me move forward. I'm still learning electrical.

At 2 ohms, you are looking at about 5000 watts RMS (Assuming that is what the amp actually pushes out)

I just finished my 5k RMS build. I have a 285 hairpin alt from US Alternators, and 3 XS Power AGM D3100s in the trunk. Before I started the build I asked the same question and was told what I have will BARELY cut it.

I haven't dropped below 14 volts running this setup, but there is some drop when the subs do hit. And the longer they are on, the lower my voltage gets.

I'd suggest doing something similar or go lithium. I have 2 runs of sky high 0 gauge, and the big 3 done to mine as well.

I've read of people having problems on 6k with a 240 amp alt and like 380ah of AGM batteries. It's gonna take a few good AGM batteries, 2 runs of 0 gauge, and depending on your voltage, a bigger alt. Hook up a voltmeter and watch it when you're done

It looks like 60-80 Ah of Yinlong Lithium is my best choice then as prebuilt or DIY is around 5 to 6 hundred cheaper than 3 of those XS D3100 batteries plus higher C's than AGM. Thanks for sharing your experience. Very insightful. My current build is on an rp2000.1d and I never drop below 14.4 full tilt while driving so it's difficult for a noob like me to gauge how much draw it can take.

I have the taramps bass 5k on a 100amp alternator and a Northstar agm under the hood with a kinetik Blu 2400 in the trunk (that's the same size as those xs batteries)

One extra battery not 4

You guys are playing with fire!
I have personally witnessed several lithium batteries go up in flames, and those lithium’s were not connected to high powered stereo systems!
Lithium batteries become very unstable when they are discharged, or charged at too high of rate!
I would never use a lithium battery in a high powered stereo, AGMs are much safer!

LTO lithium DOES NOT go up in flames. It IS the safest lithium chemistry currently on the market for the average consumer to purchase/use. I have personally been running it for almost two full seasons now, along with hundreds of others. Yinlong cells are LTO chemistry. I personally use an Alterairenano pouch style LTO cell, with a very high power density. And great charge/discharge C ratings. And I have a fairly high powered audio system.

Wired to 2 ohms, you will likely be rising to 4 ohms+, so you are likely never going to see close to 4k ( think probably 2-3k rms) out of that 1 ohm model MD8k amp. Why don't you just get a 2 ohm model? Then you would likely see 3-4k rms after rise.
I would definitely upgrade your electrical some. I would go with 80ah yinlongs, delete all other batteries. And possibly a good name brand 270-300 amp alternator.

I’m glad your having good luck with yours. I know the tech is getting better, but That does not mean one faulty cell can’t, or won’t become unstable...Hell, whole cargo jets have went up in flames, and crashed into the ocean, because of one faulty 18650, that started the domino effect.

My concern would be having to depend on lithium to start my car.

I'm currently running two runs of 2/0 for my primary power to sub amps. 247 amp (test out put) Mechman alt. The Yinlong LTOs are a great option for a lithium battery build. Great data coming out on them. Don't forget 3V 3000f capacitor banks as another option. XS power, Maxwell, and Tecate have them available. 12 caps give you up to 10K watts power demand coverage.

You could do the 8" as a front sub on its own amp and use it to bridge/enhance the gap between your 12" in the rear to the midranges
