F**k you Chrysler/Fiat.
My brothers car (2015 Dodge Dart SXT 2.4L) holds 5 quarts of oil. Chrysler says he is to come in every 5,000 miles for his oil changes per his warranty @ roughly $60 per oil change. He has to use 0w-20 full synthetic oil. He actually has to add oil to his car between oil changes, usually 2 quarts... it holds 5. The car will shut off without warning if it is low on oil. It has done this to him while traveling at over 55mph as well as around turns. He went to the dealership, they said they couldn't find anything wrong. Eventually my brother found out the vehicle shutting off was due to low oil. Back to the dealership and this time they want to do an oil consumption test and tell him to come back at exactly 1,000 miles.
The 1,000 miles goes by, they check the oil and tell him it is only a quart low. They tell him that it is acceptable and within spec and there is nothing that can be done. So I chime in and ask this idiot some questions. I said how often is he to have his oil changed? He said every 5,000 miles. I said how many quarts does this engine hold? He said it holds 5 quarts. I said how is he supposed to drive the car here with no oil in it so you can change the oil? How can he drive the car when it shuts off due to low oil? His answer was he should drive the car less so it won't use as much oil because 1 quart per 1,000 miles is acceptable.
I called another dealership... they wouldn't talk to me. I called corporate... lol The lady ask what the issue was this is exactly how this call went... "My issue is the car is using at least 1 quart every 1,000 miles..." she cut me off and said "That is normal" I said "Normal? I haven't told you what car this is, haven't told you what engine this is and your retort is that it is normal?" Continuing with her attitude she said to take it to the dealership for an oil consumption test. Blah Blah Blah. Using over a gallon of oil in 5,000 miles is not normal for a 4 cycle engine. My 4.0L doesn't use a quart of oil in 3-4 months with 290,000+ miles and my oil pan gasket leaks. He has no visible leaks ANYWHERE.
