ZX350.4 problem. Halp.

Ok, so I'm severely perplexed at my friend's install. Tried everything I know to try with no avail. Here's what happens:

Start with the music low, sounds fine.

As you start to get on the volume (20-24/34 on an Alpine 9884), the sound gets crackly and staticy, and then it goes into protection, then resets.

I tried:

Unplugging the speaker wires. Crank it up, it protects.

Bridged and unbridged.

Gains all the way down / up

The voltage stays at a constant 12.5v

Plugged an iPod into it, same problem

Turning off the subwoofer amp

I even swapped amps. Both my friend and I have a 350.4 so I swapped mine with his. Both do the same thing.

flat battery mabey, maybe test your voltage at the battery then try turn it on, voltage might be dropping below12 or sumfin, also check your earth

yeah, check fuses, ground, and voltage.

My only guess is a defective fuse. Gonna try that tomorrow. Ground is fine-- shares a ground with his sub amp, which works great.

dont think that the ground is fine because the sub amp works fine, the sub amp output stage filtering is alot different.

The car is an 03 civic sedan, and the amp is grounded on the metal between the trunk and back seat. I've worked in dozens of Civics and RSXs and always grounded there. Works every time.

Ok, swapped amps, and the other one works.

Put the one I made the thread about in my car, and it still doesn't work. It shares power and ground with the 750.1 so there's no reason why it shouldn't be working.
