It looks pretty respectable for a shallow. Comparing it to the P3, granted the P3 is a ton cheaper, the Type R is much nicer. And when you are needing a slim sub, you probably arent wanting two anyways..

nothing matters if the design isn't a good one.. i just don't understand the hype R.. ive seen people burn more of them than any other woofer ive seen/heard.. they where very peaky in anything larger than 1.75 cubes, sounded DECENT at best and didn't have any thing implemented to be a cut above the current offerings..

no youneed higher input capibility excellent control and great motor strength as well as a great install(by far the biggest factor)..

4" VC doesn't mean much when the WW isn't as long...I'm sure RMS is the same(didn't check), they're just use a shorter 4" VC instead of the longer 2.5" VC in the normal R.

The statement i quoted was referring to the standard Type R. The marketers were saying that the Alpine Type R is an unrivaled sub. Read how it is worded. "A new generation of the unrivaled.............". I was making no statement about the shallow mount................i've never tried one.
