Currently installed in a suburban is a Kicker zx750.1 to (2) Kicker cvr's 12" (D4ohm:crap in a sealed roughly measuring 24inches high (subs facing up). My bass boost=7 , gain=75%, subs.filter=off. The HU maxes at 62 but, sounds best at 59. Not really loud but, does rattle the sh1tt interior and bumps at high HU volume.

 

Next, I tried this. I bought (1) Alpine 500w rms type R 12" D4ohm and a vented box that was originally built for a trunk and for a JLw7 (see pic). Had to shave off wood to fit the type R due to the JL sub being a half inch smaller. I hooked up but only used 2 screws to hold the sub in, I gotta drill new holes. I was promised by a dude at a shop that this would be louder then the 2 Kickers. Well, it was not loud, I just put the Kickers back in.

 

I would like some advice to get the 'burb' bumping like it should be with the Kicker zx750.1 amp. What box and subs to use?

The Alpine, in a proper ported box should outperform the CVR's sealed. But, the CVR's will also outperform the Type-R in a ported box. It's hard to tell from the pic but that looks like a shitty pre-fab box with not enough port area.

Can you build your own custom box? If so, I'll design a box for you if you want. If you can't, or don't want to build your own box there are a ton of members on here that are great box builders.

A friend of mine had a tahoe with a Kicker 750.1 and 2 MTX 5500 12s that didnt sound too bad.

It also depends oh how you wire up the speakers. Since the kicker puts out ~800 watts @ 2ohms, you wanna make sure that you wire up the subs to put a 2ohmload on the amp.

That would help a bit. First, set the gains correctly. There's a tutorial. Otherwise, you're going to kill either the amplifier or the subs.

Secondly, get a box fit to the subs. Holy crap. I hate it when people buy a box and think it'll work because the mount is correct.

I'd use the Type-R, set the gains correctly with it, with a proper sized ported box. It'd sound better than the CVR's for sure, though it won't be quite as loud as them in a ported box.

He only has the option to run the Type-R @ 2 ohms, or the CVR's @ 4 ohms for 400w

its hard to get a single type r in a big *** suburban loud.

maybe try 2 type rs ported off of 1600-2000wrms.
