you were all right!!

Quit talking about different numbers of different sized woofers, it doesn't matter. If you have one wave at its crest (+1) and it intersects a wave with a similar amplitude at its trough (-1, and thus a phase shift of 180 degrees), you get 0 (cancellation). It doesn't matter where the drivers are, what size they are, etc. What matters is what happens at the listening position. Obviously if your waves are in sync (0 degrees of phase shift) at the listening position, you will have a doubling of the amplitude at the listening position (say the front drivers seat) but if you get in the rear passenger seat it might sound totally different if you have a phase shift of 180 degrees at that point.
I'm not sure why you bothered messing with frequencies or any of that crap before switching the phase, as it is the root cause of cancellation regardless of frequency, level, etc.

You are correct in saying that any system with more than one speaker has cancellation, but it doesn't have to occur at all listening positions.

Interference.gif

Constructive interference is shown with lines labeled C, destructive interference is labeled with D. Obviously you would want your meter on one of the Cs.
another interesting point though... is soundwaves can't cancel completely, the energy of the wave doesn't stop that easy, not to mention it would be near impossible to align the phases so that the sound waves cancel everywhere

/thread this is retarded... highschooler is going to argue like he knows everything.
why don't you /yourself out of this thread "highschooler" is trying to discuss his system and learn something from the thread that "highschooler" started:rolleyes:

so are you in/have you completed, college:graduate: so that your 2 and a half years ahead of me have made you so superior... (since you desided to bring education into it)

The energy never stops. That would violate the first law of thermodynamics. The energy of the wave still exists, it is just not apparent due to the phase shift in some frames of reference.

The only way two signals can be in perfect phase in three dimensions is if they originated at the same point, had the same frequency, amplitude, etc. but a 180 degree phase shift (****ed near impossible). This is why a line array would not have cancellation of a given frequency produced by two drivers seperated only in the vertical plane. Obviously this only works in two dimensions, but since we don't move up and down much while listening, it works once we find a good fixed spot in the vertical plane as our listening position.

In any environment there will be cancellation, even between different frequencies. A 40 hz wave and a 60 hz wave are going to create interference and even worse, they will create an oscillation between constructive and destructive interference (lound and soft). Ever hear a guitar that is slightly out of tune? You can hear it oscillating when two strings are plucked and allowed to ring.

Here, do some light reading http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destructive_interference

There are better sources for info (like a physics textbook) but wikipedia doesn't do too bad of a job.

I'm off to go fiberglass, pm me if you have any further questions.

actually i don't because i can still hear perfectly... but i know what it feels like... and from the point that i can't sit in the car and still breath it gets much louder... well not breathing is a lil over-board but the insides of your ears hurt and tickle at the same time...it hurts to have my teeth together and my lips go numb and the rear view mirrior won't stay on no matter what i stick it with

I USUALY DONT DO THIS... BUT...

1. Post a pic of your ****ing rear view mirror because well, your dumb.

2. I had a better set up then that with w3v2s and they just dont hit that hard... they feel like it and you would assume being new they would hit harder then the numbers show but, well they dont, Ive been in your shows i was supprised my 2 10w3v2 only hit 141 on a ACL (no tl in town at the time i was new)

3. to my dad.... 125 does what your describing. About bass, because his ears are soo fresh and virgin...

4. your a ***** and well that makes you feel and think that your system hits so much harder.

5. shut up.

6. tear my spelling appart or make fun of my post what ever, i type worse when im in total shock of how stupid some ****ing people are.

7. again shut up... stop egging everyone on with your dumb thought and ideas ab out how SOUND WORKS!

Any ways the only good thing out of this is your happy. i guess...

**** jl, i owned it once and will never own it again.

everyone told me i'd have cancellation with a multi sub system... i didn't believe... so today i got the notion to hook up a 500 watt amp to my system untill i get the other 1000/1... and you were all right cancellation bit me in the *** for 5 hours today!!! i did so much to try to get rid of it but no luck! i set the filters to seperate frequencies even tried putting the 10's on a low high pass... after i was about to give up all the sudden i desided to reverse the polarity on one of them and guess what happened? NO MORE CANCELLATION!!!! infact after playing with it i don't even want the subs playing different frequencies they sound better with the range to be different but still sound amazing when playing the same frequencies where they over-lap... my system is no-doubt louder than my buddy's from school 4 12" L5's... even he said so, but we are going to get them both metered next week to see for shure
EDIT: allthough i think he is underpowering them i think i could make his louder if i messed with the settings but they are sealed

I CAN SEE WHY HES YOUR ****IGN DUMB FRIEND HE SEALED L5's WTF.

SELL 2 of them and over power them and port them... and well that would be the smart thing to do.

so are you in/have you completed, college:graduate: so that your 2 and a half years ahead of me have made you so superior... (since you desided to bring education into it)
well i would hope he would bring education into this because u can't spell for shit

its kinda common sence if you understand sound waves at all
In that case how would you know since you don't understand sound waves (or much of anything else technical or otherwise) at all.

You would without a doubt make the best ventriloquist the world has ever seen for the simple reason that your lips never move. You are always talking out of your ***. Take your act on the road, away from here.

Every thread you have started has resulted in a total train wreck because they all center around you trying to show off. Problem is you have nothing worthy of envy except some disposable income. Problem is that money came with a total lack of sense. It's like you want the whole world to know that you are a fool and that you handle your lack of knowledge in a very immature way. You don't have the knowledge base to carry on a reasonable debate. You even lack the ability to comprehend what you read enough to put it in the proper context when you attempt to research stuff. You are best described as an immature, know-it-all punk. Having an abrasive personality is one thing. Acting like a know-it-all can be somewhat tolerated if you at least know stuff, but coming from a clueless moron such as yourself, it is pretty much instantly annoying. I'm a really patient guy and will put up with a lot of shit before I've had enough. I'm well past that point with you. Your hometown must be proud, they have the best village idiot around.
