Yamaha zone 2 HELP?

How exactly does it work? If I'm trying to run 2 Bose speakers and an ipod to my bedroom, how would I hook it up? Does it use the power from the main receiver to power the zone 2 speakers? I'm looking at the rx-v765. What is the benefit of dual zone versus running a separate source unit in the bedroom?
