xover knob

What are the specs on you box and what are you listening to? If the box has a peak in the response that you are allowing to come through by setting the crossover a bit higher, or the music doesn't have really low bass information, getting the sub up into the meat of the bass and upper bass will make it seem a lot louder. You'll find though that for the sub to create higher volume at the higher freq, it doesn't have to move as much compared to the lower freqs. Not much of a danger to the driver unless you are running a ton of power more than tthe sub is rated to handle.

its a 4.2@36. mostly rap, some of that bass mekanik low low stuff. seems like having the xover at half and up (knob is 30-300) is SIGINIFCANtly louder with rap thats usually playing probably around the 40-45hz range. sub is sd2.5 and im running around 8-900. so power wise should be good. i just dont want to damage the sub.

Couple of things.

The box you have probably peaks in the 40 Hz range (just a guess).

The frequency range of he crossover dial probably isn't linear meaning that halfway on the dial isn't halfway between 30 and 300 hz but probably closer to 80hz.

The crossover will actually begin to roll off slightly over an octave below the set freq.

This rolloff will cut into the peak of your box and keep it from being as loud.

Aren't most of those crossovers on amps not exactly right, like the 50 hz to 200 hz ones? cuz i remember settin my crossover at 80 hz with a test tone when ihad my cvr 12's and i find out by the amp markings it said 100 hz, interesting
