x over slopes on premier 860 in pro mode

I'm running my 860 in pro mode(active) and see that since going to active the low pass slope goes from -6 to -36. which is better and what does going lower achieve and what the pro's and con's. I read the manual but didn't get much from it. a detailed answer would be helpful

Run a search for slope.......I think it was squeak that had a nice write up about them.
