Wtf is Phase Control?????

Was cheking specs in an amp and came with this... Phase Control: 0˚/90˚/180˚ ... wtf is that? is for subs or something like that?

i think maybe it has something to do with your speakers. By this i mean i THINK phase control will let you set your speakers in/out of phase. Meaning that you can make your speakers play otgether or off time with eachother.... You know like slowing one speaker down so that it hits the same notes just slightly after or before the other one does..

Ofcoare i have no idea if this is true... just an educated guess from stuff i learned in physics class.. Am I at all on the ball here??

Changing phase basically causes or removes cancellation of the sound.

Check out the tone generator at http://www.esser.u-net.com/ttg.htm and play with the Phase re Left. Phase change is really hard to explain, so hearing it might help.

when a speaker is out of phase .... it moves without putting out any/little sound. my friends l7s did this when he had the polarity backwards

Phaze control is a simple little feature........but I never saw the use for it in car audio....

If you imagine a graph of a sine wave for example. The sine wave will have a set number of periods in time....these periods in time are often exprressed as degrees in electronics... So a full period is equal to 360 degrees. Lets say our sine wave is 1 period long...it can be divided into 360 degrees. What phaze control does is most often delay an audio signal for an x amount of degress in order to overcome any obstructions a souind wave may have in the listening area.

A really simple way of phaze control is to switch polarity (180 degrees) on one driver in order to even the soundstage. Best to leave the pahze control at 0 or 360......... Using it will more than likely hurt your sound than help. :thumbs_up :
