If any of you workout, what protein/post workout shake do you guys use? I'm looking into getting something to take post workout since I am starting the p90x workout routine. At the price these days, I want to get something that actually works descent for the money and no just blowing 30-50$ on something that doesn't really work. Thanks for any input

meh, get a complex with branch chain aminos, glutamine, etc. your joints will appreciate it and you will grow lean muscle easier while burning fat. you can get a 10lb bag of Optimum Nutrition (ON) Pro Complex on ebay from advance supplements for around 60 bucks. considering stores sell 5lb containers of this stuff for 70-90bucks, it is a great deal. It has the best stats as far as protein, carbs, BCAA's, and other stuff. Easily one of the best proteins ever made. Monster Milk is similar but I dont think you can get such quantity. I've been using this stuff (pro complex) for a while and its great. It mixes VERY well and is great with milk, water, or a mixture of both. I'm 5'11 175lbs with roughly 5% bodyfat and relatively strong. It is great stuff.

I've tasted monster milk before so if the ON is similar, it shouldn't be that bad.

There are a lot of Shakes out there that promise things, but I stick to the fundamentals. P90X, If I am correct, is a strength training, aerobic+anaerobic workout designed to fool the body out of the "Plateau" effect. condition the body to produce small amounts of fast-twitch muscle fibers in return a higher amount of slow-twitch fibers.

GNC %100 whey protein, contains 21 grams protein, less than 1 grams of milk sugars(fructose, sucrose, lactose, & galactose) around 100 calories per 21 grams of protein/serving. It's perfect for building lean muscles, but not any sugars for your body to run on, so it helps your body get used to using fat as an energy producer. A small amount of creatine is included, but not enough to be considered for loading.

I prefered NO2. Argenine Alpha Ketoglutarate. Really good and healthy vasodilator. Helps with blood flow, and also helps the body convert fat to energy by helping the body make more mitchondria in each cell. Mitochondria are the power houses of energy production in cells, so with more in each cell, more fat can be used as energy.

If you decide to get serious, there would be a lot more to know and a lot more research i woud recommend. I could help you if you need, hope some of this helps!

That and maybe some Creatine.

I guess maybe if I would say what my goals are it would help a little with the choices. I'm looking for something that will help me gain some weight(as in muscle), give me good energy to make it through a day of college and work, and something that taste descent. I'm not looking to be super big or anything like that. Just would like to be cut, strong, and healthy.

I am really sorry about that. it took me 8 years to become a registered dietician. But I have not practiced in about 5 years, so even some of the new products that are available leave me skepticle. I would recommend looking into different Branch Chain Amino Acids too. These are the building blocks of protein and the building blocks of life. Most have specific results depending on which ones you take. Arginine, a vasodilator. Leuceine, Helps muscle recovery. so on and so on. You can check the label of what you are buying and see if it has the combination of ingredients that will suite your workout and help you get the results you want.

When it comes to building muscle and being lean. Two things will always be constant.

1. Tear a muscle, give it protein to grow back.

2. To use a fat cell as energy, don't give the body sugars to run on and it's forced to use fat as an energy source

Everything else is just gravy..

Not exactly sure where you find it for that cheap but I can't seem to find it that cheap anywhere

Never mind I found it! Thanks.

the Pro complex includes a list of different branch chain aminos (as stated above) as well so it is a good product. If you want to look into creatine, look into kre-alkalyn. There is also monohydrate but it will make your body absorb more water and you will feel bloated. kre helps with muscle hardness and growth but it might not be entirely necessary with the type of workout you will be doing. the P90x workouts will tone and harden you anyway. just use the protein as a recovery. to help with growth, drink one in the morning, one a few hours before workout, and one after (but not before bedtime). the Pro complex contains 60g of protein per serving but there has been discussion about whether the body can really use that much (or 180g/day in this case) so what I do is take half servings. this leaves you with 30g of protien, roughly 7.5g of BCAA's, some carbohydrates, and less sugar. drink 3 of those half servings a day and your bag will last a looong time.

The friends of mine that had great results on P90X and Insanity were and still are on Advocare products. I love them too but I don't go to any extremes, I just want to stay comfortable in my size 32 pants. I bought in for the 40% discount. Good enough for professional and Olympic athletes, good enough for me and my friends.
