wiring up a switch

I need to wire a switch for my neons in my car and i think i know how to do it i just want to make sure that this is the right way.

I am going to run 16 gauge wire off the battery postive and negative, then the positive to one of the prongs on the switch and the 3 neons to the other and then for the negative just hook them all up to each other to the negative speaker wire. how does that sound?

The way I do my switches is:

I cut either the - or + of the neon light wire, lets say I cut the +. So now what I do is I connect some wire to where I cut and run it to one of the switch's terminals. Then I take a piece of wire and run it from the other switch's terminal to the + of my cigarette lighter. (Keep in mind I am using neons which have the big head that plugs into the lighter, so in the end I wind up with a wire connected to the + casing of my cigarrete

You are just opening and closing a circuit, its an extremely simple idea. I have never grounded anything in using switches, I just use that setup I described and it works like a charm.

good luck.

maybe he doesn't want his neons on ALL the time...

come on now kids use your mind, expand a little...how about we....

control the neons, with the relay, with the switch....woohoooo...what a novel concept....

sorry im in a cynical *** mood

ok, i ran the wire from the battery to where i am going to mount my switch. i havent connected it to the batt yet. now the switch that im getting has a pos, neg, and acc terminals all im going to do is pos from batt to positive on switch, acc to the 3 positive L.E.D. and leave the negative alone. (what size fuse should i put on the positive wire?

i have a 10 amp fuse that on that wire runs 4 leds in my interior, and in my trunk i have and extra cigarete lighter that runs my 2 neons for my enclosure. i am going to be adding my neon in my interior in the back set. with that switch ur using i would ground it speccial if it is one that has a light in it

all i have to do is to put the positive wire on the battery. sorry about the duck tape it is crimped underneath it. when i took off the negative screw from the battery to put the wire on it sparked when i put it back on is that because i had positive hooked on still?

Hey There,

You should be using crimp~style connectors to join your wires, instead of Duct Tape //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif ,and use Tie Straps to secure any wire(s) you run to something that's stationary. No Fuel Lines!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nono.gif.eca61d170185779e0921b0faa9704973.gif

If you can get Fully Insulated female spades,I would use them to secure wires to male tabs on that switch, and to the relay prongs also.If you use the proper insulated terminals, you should never have to use tape to wrap the wire to connector. The wire insulation should bottom out "Inside" of the connector, where you stripped the insulation off.Take Care.

the crimp style i used was when you twist the wires together then put them in the plastic covered crimp (i used a HU install kit that i never used so that should give you a better image of what im talking about) but using 16 gauge wire with 3 20 gauge wires and 1 power for a CB i had to duck tape where i did it to make sure everything was fine and no wires would touch anything.
