Wiring Kit Question

I will be running an Alpine SWR1242D on a MB Quart DSC 1000.1 amp. Should a 4awg wiring kit be sufficient for this setup, or should I go bigger?

Also, what gauge speaker wire typically comes with the wiring kits? Should I look into purchasing a few feet of, say, 8 gauge speaker wire and just disregarding the speaker wire from the kit?

Finally, if pursuing the last option of buying separate speaker wire, is it economical to just purchase each aspect of a "wiring kit" individually, or will everything else besides the speaker wire be decent for this setup?

A 4 ga wiring kit should be perfect for you. It'll support the 80-100 amps of fusing required for your amp.

Bigger speaker wiring is nice, but not too necessary. 12 ga will be fine, especially if you are wiring each voice coil separately to the amp. This is the size used in most wiring kits.

10 ga will also work... 8 will too, but it's sort of overkill.

The 4 gauge kit I just bought has 16 gauge speaker wire. Could almost use it as dental floss. lol

a shop by me sells 4awg for 1$ a foot lol, an the speaker wire thats in these kits are usually crap. i use some 10awg power wire as sub wire, it doesnt get hot

not all kits are made the same... American accessories 4g is smaller then Rockford 10g. hence the kit is like 20 bucks. keep that in mind and a real 4g kit with real 16g wire is just fine

if your worried about cost that amp should run fine off 8g at 2ohms but id recommend the 4g (i'm assuming u bought the 1kw amp to add another sub later on or more upgrade options or something?)

go 2 on the power/ground (for when u wanna upgrade) and eather 8 or 10 on wire but make shure its real 8 cause cheep 8 is about 10 with the 8 kacing

8 gauge is almost too big...its hard as hell to shove in the terminals for the sub...

uh ya.... 8g speaker wire on a 500w sub is stupid... better hope you never blow the sub because the 8g will let that amp burn before the protect can engage

Any recommendations on a "real" wiring kit for 4awg?

And yeah I got the amp cause it was on sale and I can use it because sooner or later I plan on running two 12's off of it. It should be ok if I turn the gain down for one sub, correct?
