wiring help

I have 2 alpine type x and 2 alpine pdx 1000.1 (1 amp to each sub) in a ported box..I want to get the most out of my subs..I see ppl wire up their subs to run in a lower ohm load, is that a way to allow more voltage to run to the speaker to get louder? If so, how can I do that to my 2 type x? On the3 specs for my amps it stated 1000 rms at 2 or 4 ohms..dont know if that makes a difference in any of this...
