Hello everyone, I attempted to install two kenwood 10" subs in my truck today. I have a JVC 340 head unit (cheap but it works). I bought a 600 watt amp and all the hardware to install everything. I would not consider myself a beginner and have a pretty good knowledge of automotive electronics/installs.
Many many things happened before I decided to call it a day. For the longest time a l.e.d. on the amp was red as opposed to green meaning there was a problem somewhere along the line. (manual said short circuit or DC problem) It seems the more I messed with the gain and level and crossover settings the better it would get.
At one point during the day I got everything to sound good for about a minute. And then it all went to hell. I had the two subs wired up in stereo and they would not put out any sound!! I started to believe it was just a crappy amp so I pulled my other car up (also has subs) and took the RCA's from the hummer and plugged them into my explorer's amp. Seems it was fine but still not loud. I should also mention that when I had the subs and amp hooked up to the hummer if the led went from green to red it would somehow make the head unit shut down and then turn back on. I didn't know this could happen through the RCA's -unless there is a serious problem/short somewhere??
My next step will be to take the new amp and swap it with the explorers amp to try and isolate where the problem is (amp-subs-head unit).
The only other thing I could think of was that I somehow messed up the head unit and that it's not putting out enough power through the rca's?
Has anyone ever run into this kinda situation? I know this was a confusing post but I don't know how else to desribe it.
Thanks
