hey, ive got two 12" dvc eclipse subs and ill have them runnin off a 2 channel rockfos amp....i understand bridging the subs and amp, but wont that mean ill have two positive and negative wires running into the same amp port? i know bridging the amp drops the ohms and ups the power, but what does bridging the subs do? does it allow the subs to handle a lower ohm load? i'm trying to get everything to run at a 2 ohm load....pics and diagrams would be great...

check the sticky at the top of this forum, it shows how to wire all types of subs. if you want to run a two ohm load then you want to wire the subs in parallel for a 4 ohm load then you bridge the amp, to do that you use one positive output from one channel and one negative for the other. if it is labeled on the amp it should tell you how to bridge it. if not check the manual for the amp. even if you dont have the manual fosgate probably does online. you will only need two wires.

Bridging a sub or subs takes the power from both cahnnels and puts it into the subs. Say you have a 2 channel 1000watts rms amp thats bridgable-its gonna be 500watts rms x 2 channels and if u bridge it will be 1000watts rms x1. That may be kind of confusing but i tried.

2nd thread 2nd picture is what you need to do.... for 4 ohms.... what type of rockford is it? hey what type of eclipse do you have?

rockfos 451s i think...somethin like 225wattsx2...the eclipse arent the titaniums or aluminums tho...i just got the entry level subs....hey about the pic u pointed out....im gonna hav two positive and two negative wires comin off the subs...do i put both pos wires in one amp port and the two neg wires in the other port?

just jump from speaker to speaker then to amp. if not just put each wire under same postive and same negative. put postive on left channel and negative on right channel. so the left channels negative has nothing under the terminal and same with right right channel with nothing under postive terminal. which eclipse do you have? the 87 or sw61? if you got 61 their rms is only 170 and if you got the 87 the rms is 300? if you got 87 u should try and run each one with its own channel it would be less strain on your amp and it might be loud enough for you.....

ive got the 87 w 300 watts rms....r u saying not to bridge the amp, just to run the wires straight to both terminals? i know my bit about head units but i get sorta lost on amps w/o pics for examples....

yeah i would put each speaker on its own channel....... on that same page its the 3rd pic down it shows how to wire the dvc to 2 ohms which should give 225 to each speaker..... see if that pleases your ears............ are you sure you got dual voice coil?

The way bridging works is you are using the full output power from each channel of the amp, and you are effectively reducing the speaker load on the amp. So basically one channel drives the positive side of the signal and the other channel pulls the negative side of the signal. The speaker load is split between the two channels so whatever the speaker rating is it still applies to the power equations. However since each channel is seeing half the load you have to make sure the amp is built to perform at the lower impedence.

At least, that's how I always understood bridging....
