Wiring help for a n00b

Okay, so I have a Soundstream RUB500-2 which puts out 500x1 RMS @ 4 Ohms.

My sub is a Diamond Audio CM3 12D4. So how would I wired the voice coils to still have the 4 Ohm load to the amp?

When I did this, for some reason it said my amp was clipping. I have an Alpine 9805 HU, would the wiring have something to do with the clipping? I went to a local shop today to see what they said...and they told me to wire it in series and it would get rid of the clipping. Is this true, or was this guy just talking silly?

Yeah but i keep setting the gain down, it still clips. Actually when it clips, I think I can hear the bass from my factory speakers more than the D-Audio sub...this shouldnt be. I know the amp/sub are good to go since I put it in my roommates car and it bumped like nothing...so do you think I might have a HU problem? or do you think Its somethine else?

When I turn the bass, bass boost, or the sub bass lvl down it makes it really hard to hear the bass from the sub (can hear it more from the factory speakers).
