ok so if i wire my sub like this
1_2ohm_dvc_1ohm.gif

what do i do with the amps other positive and negative outputs? what about the subs? just leave them empty? also does this apply if i have a dual 2 ohm coil? or is a dual 1 ohm coil=2ohms?

WTF are you trying to say here Gump? The picture you showed there is a dual 2 ohm woofer with the voice coils connected in parallel to show a 1 ohm load to the amp. It does not matter if the amp is a stereo or mono amp, it is still a 1 ohm load. It will be a 1 ohm load to a mono amp's single output. It will still be a 1 ohm load to a stereo amp's single channel output. It will still be a 1 ohm load to a stereo amp's bridged channels. The only way to change the ohm load is to add another woofer or wire the sub voice coils in series.

im asking if a dual 2 ohm coil equal to 4ohm load or 2 ohm laod? also if i have a single channel amp it has 4 out puts 2 positive and 2 negative and im asking will a dual 1 ohm coil = total 1 ohm load? if so whats the purpose in have a dual 2ohm coil and wiring it down to one ohm if i could just get a dual 1 ohm coil

If you have ONE dual 2 ohm subwoofer, wiring it as in the shown diagram it will make the load 1 ohm to the amp. Like said, THE ONLY way to change this load to ANY amp, would be to add another woofer.

MONO amps have ONE pos/neg input. You may either run ONE woofer to this pos/neg OR run multiple woofers, meaning 2 or more, in series. This will all depend on the amplifiers capabilities. If the amp is 1 ohm stable, you could run 1 dual 2 ohm woofer wired like the shown diagram. That would be 1 ohm run to a 1 ohm stable amp.

If you have a multiple channel amp, for instance MORE THAN ONE, pos/neg input, chances are it has a bridged setting. You will need to pull out the amps manual, or google the specifications on the said amp. If you are wanting to run ONE woofer in a 1 ohm load to an amp thats not capable of consistently holding that said load, it WILL smoke something eventually after consistent use. if you BRIDGE a stereo amp (more than one channel) there will be a set of pos/neg terminals left unused. Most amps have the bridged setting inscribed on the side of the amp right above or below the terminals.

Not to be a prick, but if you didnt understand that, I suggest you go to your nearest stereo shop and have them help you pick equipment and do the install.

Your question about the dual 2 ohm being equal to 4 ohm or 2 ohm.....quite simple it all depends on how you wire the sub(s) That will give you your answer. Go to http://www.rockfordfosgate.com and they have a wiring wizard link that you just input what you have and it tells you how to wire it and what ohm load it will be.

You can wire a dual 2 ohm woofer to a mono amp one of two ways.

1) Series = 4 ohm

2) Parallel = 1 ohm

There is no 2 ohm option with a mono amp. If you had a stereo amp, you could run each voice coil to it's own output and that would be a 2 ohm load, but that is very discouraged.

Now the outputs on a mono amp are all the same circuit. Yes they might have two POS+ connections, but they connected together inside the amp. They are one in the same. Same goes for the NEG- outputs.
