my amp has a master/slave switch if i use my sub amp as the master could i use and old amp with it 2 power some coaxials or do both amps need a master/slave switch.

Also would it take away from the power of the sub amp or increase the load on it.

Last if my hu has 40 x 4 watts and my sub has 27 x 4 watts would these be combined to power the speakers

You are not making much sence, but I will try.

It sounds like you are trying to "daisy chain" two amps together. Doing this drops the linear voltage that each amp will recieve. To make up for the drop in linear voltage, turn up the gain. This dips into your head room, but there is no way around it. If you are using a line driver (which you should be if you want peak performance from your amps), the drop wont even be noticable.

How many outputs does you HU have? How many amplifiers are you using?

As for the power of the amp in the HU, it has nothing to do with the external amps that you have. When you are using external amps, you don't use the amp in the HU.
