wire tapping

Hey, I was wondering about this. I am planning to run additional lights off of my turn signal wires, I guess this would be like something you do if you have side marker lights, I dont, but anyway, whats the proper or best way to do this. clip and shave thatturn signal wire, then attach the three together and a healthy dose of electrical tape, I'm guessin solder is probably the best way to do this, but I'm not sure if there is a tool or something specific, I guess I could use a butt terminal or something, is there a neat spoecific connector whereby i would need solder? I hate soldering //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smokin.gif.f1dc8d2acb1809e863ebd6a47eaa0d45.gif Thanks Jason

Usually people use wire twist nuts...

You should consider using shrink wrap instead of electrical tape. It's cleaner and doesn't really come apart after time like electrical tape does. It holds up to water better too. You should use a heat gun to shrink it but a lighter works just as long as you don't catch it on fire. Anyways, good luck with your mods!

There are splice connectors made just for that purpose. You don't even have to cut the wire, they dig into the insulation. Squeze them with pliers you're done. I used them for trailer light harness and they're still fine after 6 years. Any auto parts store has them.

yea, this is an old post (sorry) but i think there is a point missed in it... alot of turn signals or flasher/hazard switches are thermal multi switches. If you add too much of a load to the basic structure it's very possible to burn out the switch. I learned this a few cars ago with my Grand Am... i had two dash neons running off the fog light switch (which on the model powered through the hazard-multi switch) for about four months before i had to replace the hazard-multi switch unit.
