1.) So if I have a JL 12w6v2 at 400 watts, 4 ohm, I should buy 14 gauge speaker wire?

2.) If I have 150 watt RMS speakers at 4ohm, I should buy 16 gauge speaker wire?

"16 gauge: ~8.7 amperes

Yea those wire sizes will be sufficient. I would personally run 12ga to the sub, but 14ga will be fine.
