This is just the OS, not office applications. You want Microsoft office in addition to this.

The "catch" is you have to have windows vista installed in order to configure windows 7

Its not a new operating system, its just an update they decided to charge you for.

Its like saying, oh yeah we sold you this piece of crap last year but ughh give us $30 and we'll fix it for you.

And copies of windows apps like word, excel, etc. are available for free.

places like bb-warez.com etc.

they're illegal but...they work perfectly and its free so...

microsoft is over priced.....in new over the counter form Windows should be 49.99.......thieves
if windows is over priced, what alternative is there //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Piracy is wrong asshat. Also OS refreshes happen with any distro you idiot. Lastly, Vista isn't crap. A bit bloated for some hardware, yes, but it introduced many good features. Most complaints are generated by clueless doucherockets who have no clue on how to tailor it the way they need it.

I'd rather use a Mac than a PC. However, all of my computers are PCs running XP. Mac operating systems are generally cheap (after you purchase a Mac). Ubuntu is free. For most of you, these aren't great alternatives, but they're really cheap (if you have a Mac) or free.

where can you get the professional edition of win7 for cheap? i only see the home edition for 30. i am willing to pay a a little extra for the professional edition

Im an IT professional and i've totally shyed away from Vista, imo it's garbage. I have all sorts of programs that I normally use that won't even run on vista. I'd love to see if it works on Win 7 but i've not felt like building a computer just to test an operating system //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

i dont think so. You might have to have a windows key or disk (xp, vista, 98) but you wont need to have it installed and will be able to do a clean install.

This would definitely be something to look into.
I've been reading up on the site a bit more, and it should be pretty simple to do a clean install.

Download the file, burn it to a DVD as a .iso file. Boot off it, then install. I also read that they'll be sending you a product key via email when the product is released.

If you install this, it would wipe out all the programs already on your computer, right? Basically like starting with a brand new pc?
