To be honest in the benchtests it destroyed XP in terms of speed. There are a few quirks that need worked out as far as software compatibility goes, but thats mostly image mounting software like Daemon Tools that requires special drivers. Other than that almost all software and hardware that works in Vista will be Win7 compatible.

I went legit with the Professional version for free.

if you are looking for performance increase over vista then adding $30(2gb) ram would be a better waste of money
