Will This Setup Work?

It says the wiring harness for my car costs $60??? What is this thing and why is it so expensive?
Ouch guess you have to get that no matter what for your vehicle if you want to keep your warning chimes. the regular wiring harness is 25 dollars and the pac safety chime adapter is around 50, sonic bundled them together. You can always choose to keep your head unit and use an audiocontrol lci 6 to get the pre-outs you want.

Ok, so Churcfield has two different install packages, one for $25, and one for $50. The only difference between the two are the wiring harnesses. Here are the links for the two: Amazon.com: Metra Electronics LC-GMRC-LAN-03 LC-GMRC-LAN Interface: Automotive

http://www.amazon.com/C2R-GM11-Interface-Integration-Adapter-Vehicles/dp/B000VAOILG

The cheaper has a package note saying: This wiring interface works with non-amplified systems or any system in which you're not using the factory amp. The interface retains warning chimes and Retained Accessory Power, and provides a 12v accessory output. The interface does not retain OnStar or factory amplifiers.

Since my system is amplified, and not with the factory amp, is this the package I should choose?

That is only if you have the premium audio package when you first buy the car. If you just have a regular standard options cobalt then you have nothing to worry about.

Look up on the audio control LCI6, you can keep the factory head unit and dont have to buy anything else, you are just using the speaker level inputs from the stock head unit.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. My car does have the standard audio option so does that mean I need the more expensive harness wiring or the less expensive one? Also, it seems that LCI6 is $100 and for that price I would rather buy an entirely new stereo and install that.

Crutchfield split the things you need into two pieces(you need BOTH in order for your head unit AND vehicle warning chimes to work, no way around it). Sonicelectronix combined both of them into whole piece. Sonic is a bit cheaper by a few bucks. You are looking at 60$+ on top of your head unit. Thats why the audiocontrol loc is a much more appetizing choice, it gives a strong preamp signal has all the outputs you need for amps and subs along with crossover functions. Just telling you now man, this sh*t about to get real expensive, car audio is a slippery spending slope.

Ok, well I think it would be best for me to get the LC6I box thing. Then at least it saves me the pain of installing a new stereo and it will cost less than a stereo+install kit. So, my final system will look like this:

Speakers: JBL Power Series Speaker System: 6x9" Coaxial & 6.5" Component System Combo

Amp: Amazon.com: Kenwood KAC-8406 4-Channel Car Amplifier: Sports & Outdoors

LC6I: http://www.amazon.com/AudioControl-LC6i/dp/B002T4XR78

Look good?

Also, if in the future I want a subwoofer with its own monoamp, can I hook that up to the LC6I along with the 4 channel Kenwood?

Thanks for all the help

Ok well I'm gonna go ahead and order all of the parts while cyber week is still going on! Thanks for the help everyone!
