Will this do the same thing as a audiocontrol line driver?

I am using the stock cd player in my 06 tacoma. I have two amps, and used a line out converter to run the rca's.

There is a ton of dead static when the volume is all the way down. And the volume only goes from 0 to about 11 and thats about as high as I can run it. The guy at the car audio shop told me to get an audio control line driver to fix the problem. Will this pheonix gold line driver work as well?

the audio control line drivers are like 150 bucks.

line driver is going to do the exact opposite. You're going to be raising the rca voltage even more and will likely damage the amp.
what?

then why would they suggest this?

I am running a kicker 350watt to boston pro components

and a jbl 1200 watt mono to an fi "Q" 12.

what should I do then?

amplifiers can only handle a certain voltage input on the RCA's. Most LOC's are pretty high on the voltage to begin with.
I would double check your LOC's wiring
the LOC is a "PAC" i think...

someone told me I may just need a better one and the problem would go away.

this is the first time I have been told not to get a line driver though. Very interesting.

There should be an output level adjustment on the LOC that you have. Turn it down. A lot. That should fix both issues.
I should have picked up on that... Noise floor becoming audible is classic sign of input sensitivity being way too high. I've never used an LOC though.

The 4 trimmers are the output adjusters. Turn them down.
I turned them all the way down and no sound at all. I adjusted the one side for the sub, which sounds better. But even turning the other side up, just a tiny bit, the dead noise immediately comes through. When I turn it up a tiny bit more, it gets really bad.

Why would someone recommend the audio control line driver?

If it's unsafe for an amp, why do they make it?

Personally I would use the Audio Control LC6i or 6XS and call it a day. They are highly predictable in outcome, will solve the noise issues for you, provide a quality interface between your new amps and the factory headunit and allow for easy system expansion.

My wife is saying the same thing.. when I spent all the money on the rest of the system, why skimp on this...

I messed with the loc and cant get it to sound good at all....

Turn the trimmers on the LOC all the way down and do the same with your amp gains. Turn the volume knob up to about 3/4 on the head unit. Slowly and slightly turn up the trimmers on the LOC until you get some output on the amp. Set your amp gains correctly. Until you've gone through those steps you can't rule out setup as the problem in your system. The PAC LOC isn't a bad unit at all and you already have it. No reason not to use it.

I will try that, but as soon as I turn the side up that controls the components, the dead noise starts. I really sounds bad..
