Will the plane take off?

i still dont see what im assuming...
the riddle clearly states that the plane is moving... so please, again tell me what im assuming? if you think that im assuming the plane will move, im not assuming that, i KNOW it will be moving. if it were a car, i would say otherwise (unless the car was propelled by a jet engine, or any engine that pushes/pulls the car by applying force in any way other than to the wheels).

saying that the plane will move is not an assumption. there is no where in the riddle/myth statement that says there is a force holding the airplane in one spot. newtons laws are not assumptions //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
it also doesnt say that there wont be a force holding the plane back.

IE, "[you] know" it wont be moving because you're assuming there wont be a force. like i said, by default, you're assuming.

Devillian: im not copping out. now that i understand the question, its pretty obvious the plane will fly. why else would i argue that there wont be air flow over the wings? well because i thought the idea was that the plane was suppose to stay still (speed up and slow down to sit still on the converyor belt). obviously i assumed (which i shouldnt have, and asked for people to clarify the riddle first) and made that mistake.

thats not an assumption, thats a given //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

why would they randomly throw in an unmentioned variable? that would be like mythbusters saying "today we are going to see if an airplane can take off", then come to find out, they have decided to see if an airplane can takeoff while its chained to a brick wall. if another force isnt mentioned, its not part of the equation.

so, no, i didnt assume anything //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

edit, even after your ninja edit //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif im still not assuming anything. like stated, in order for their to be a question or a solution, all aspects must be presented, or to say that all determining factors must be given. if the myth had said "can an airplane take off on a treadmill, while its being held in place by chains...", then and only then would i go under the impression that there is another force being taken into consideration //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

im pretty much done trying to prove my point, although it does provide for some entertainment. i have to admit, when i first posted that you had assumed something it was just a quick post without even thinking. only when you responded to it did i actually try to save it even though, i really didnt have much ground to stand on. i can accept being out debated //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

but what i will say is that i did assume, that the "myth" was saying that the plane was suppose to stay still (ie, prop speeds up and slows down to keep the plane in the same spot) and to see if the plane would take off. i thought they were getting at "if we move the ground, instead of the plane, like some twilight zone shit, will it take off?". i must admit, that it now seems kind of stupid to assume this, but i did, which is why i kept wondering, "why is this so hard to grasp for everyone" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Btw hoss, there are more idiots on my side of the arguement than yours....check the poll.. You're not the all knowing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
I had to chuckle at this. Maybe there there is a reason there are more idiots on your side of the argument.

lol, i thought the same way at first too. but thats just the nature of it. its more of a very simple riddle than a myth.
I actually lol'd @ myself when i realized my error after I posted lol

pretty much yeah, just a riddle, people arent used to thinking about vehicles with wheels not being driven by them
