Will running 2 12s drain more power then 1?

If i upgrade my single 12 to a dual 12 with the current amp im using for the single, will it drain more battery or drain the alternator?


I have a single 12 inch power acoustik goth powered on an power acoustik rzr1-2500d amp. Thinking about switching it out for 2 woofer enclosure and add a 2nd goth woofer.

Will this drain more power from car?

I'd have to know the specs of the amp and th he subs as in specs what voice Coils dual or single then what ohms usually 2 or 4 and the amps rated rms power and to what ohm its stable usually either 2 or 1

Amp is 1 ohm stable i Just looked it up ...I'd have to know the sub specs to know what will work

If the sub is a dual 4 voice coil you can run 2 and it should be a major improvement if they are in the right enclosure

What vehicle is it in ? If the wiring is done properly it shouldn't hurt most electrical systems

Going in 2008 grand prix...the battery runs at 13-14 volts when i check

Do the big 3 on your electrical wiring under the hood make sure to use true copper 4g wire not that aluminum crap and make sure you have a low resistance ground in the trunk on some unibody vehicles you have to pull a 4g ground as well as power wire . I do on all my cars

If you do that the electrical will be better than new and amp will perform much better

grounded it between a screw and metal door covering some electrical outlets in trunk. Same ground wire thickeness came in that kit

You'd have to get a dmm and a long piece of 12g wire about 25ft then you can test the ohm resistance to your ground point . Walmart has a pretty nice yellow colored multi meter for about $20 I use fluke meters for my testing it needs to be 1/2 ohm or less ideal is 0 ohms

Those kits use to use good copper wire if they haven't changed but you'll have to research big 3 on what to do it's basically upgrading engine grounds and charging lead from the alternator to the battery

That amp was tested at 2 ohms, not one



it’s a 600 watt amp at 2 ohms. Your dual 4 wires to a final 2 ohm load. So, no it would not be a good idea to split that amps power to two subs wired at 1 ohm. That would 200-300 watts going to each 1200w rms sub.Get a new amp
