A non-broke in sub will not make the noises you suggest. The coil was out of alignment, sounds like you got lucky and put it back into alignment. How long that will last however, is anyone's guess.

Fixing too large of holes in surrounds with a material that is not flexible enough could easily cause the coil to misalign during excursion.

Oh, and your brother is a total chode.

I just watched the video, that sub is hosed. I like how the surround rippled unevenly, and even stayed there after the note as finished. Shit looks totally misaligned.
what do you mean by hosed?

It wasn't my brothers fault.. it was his friend that bumped it too hard.

Think the sub will be okay in the long run as long as its not abused anymore?

You can watch that video and think that sub is operating okay?

When that wrinkle stayed in the surround even after the note was over, that would certainly indicate things are misaligned.

yeah.. but is that a chance of what you said above happening? that it got put back into alignment? cause really.. it sounds fine now and the noise is gone.

If that video was shot after the noise went away, Id be listening for it to come back real soon.
the noise was still there when that video started.. but it went away after the part where the surround stayed wrinkled. it plays fine now.. i'll keep an ear out to see if the noise comes back.

my question is.. is it possible for the misalignment to be fixed like that?

no

that was strange for sure. if i were to guess, id bet that there was a string inside the sub tied to the cone on the back side thru a port and someone was yanking on it and they then let go of it all the sudden to 'magically fix it' with copious amounts of bass - like trickery.

i mean. i cant explain what the hell happened to 'fix' the noise it was making. it was certainly out of alignment or something. maybe the goop was sort of in the wrong place or down between the cone\surround to much and when you 'burped' it that part loosened up and thats what put it more center.

i dont think its going to last too long however. crazy how it 'fixed' itself tho.... thats a new one for me.
