Will I need to upgrade my electrical equipment with just a MTX 1501d?

The local shop that has been doin the install on my truck says that if i rewire my MTX 1501d to 2 ohms (new subs are comin) then i will need a 5-farad cap because that amp has a big current draw or something along those lines. Is this true? Should i just upgrade my alternator or battery? Im not very knowledgable about this stuff yet, thanks

Hi, you don't need a cap. They are just trying to make more money with you. With the truck you have, you should be ok. Have a look at doing the big 3 (read sticky). You might want to look at getting a good batt. like yellow top. Don't get a cap, they are useless.

What kind of truck? They usually come with fairly large alts to begin with. You wont need the cap. What shop too? I live in dallas is why i am asking, I trust very few of them here.

LOL, yea this guy is feeding me a line then... Its Traffic Jamz near Fort Worth BTW. The guy has done GREAT work on installing the stuff, its all clean and none of it has broke or anything. I have had trouble with many of the car audio shops around here. Is it that hard to find a reliable one?

the 1501d will pull a good deal of current. Do the big three, get a good battery (yellow/blue top/etc) and when you save up enough, upgrade the alternator. ANY light dimming is too much!!

My truck came with a 105a alt stock. It will handle the 1501 at 2ohm. I do suggest you do the "big 3". I am going to do mine sometime soon. PM me and we can meet up at my house, we can work on both trucks at the same time.
