i have a '98 civic LX that has a MTX 5400X 5-channel amp (4 X 25 + 100) and a MTX 1501D that will be powering 2 subs soon (won't be using the 5th channel on the 5400X when the subs are installed). my question is will i need a cap or a higher output alt to push these amps? and if so, what's the best way to go about it? what are the best caps (brand/rating) and where do i get a high output alt for my car? thank you for the help.

I'd go on ebay if I was you. All these audio places around Seattle are quoting me up to $600 fo a 200 amp alternator for my Expedition. I found one for $180 and it works just fine. I also bought an 'Optima' Yellow top battery. Remember to use atleast 4 guage wiring from the alternator to your battery. I am looking into a cap right now. I am running 1 xtant 1000 watt amp and 1 xtant 600 watt amp to my stereo. Soon I will be running another xtant 1000 watts to push each of my subs. I might even consider buying another battery and a battery isolator just to be safe with the charging. Good luck.

All together. Bottom line is that nothing is as good as upgrading your alternator. Do a search on H.O. Alt and see if you can find the email for Dominik. He makes HO alts and offers them at the most competitive prices. He is well known and recommend on every forum I have ever read.
