Will 4 gauge work?

well, hardly never. that's why I said it would work, but bigger wire is generally better. it also depends on what brand wire he has. if he is using cheap shit the rating on it might be more like 100a. i've seen a lot of crappy 4 awg wire that looks more like 6 gauge.
Like the "4 AWG" that's "insulated" so thick that it turns out to be 8/6 by the time you strip it.. Been there..

x2. I've seen some nasty-azz wire out there. Knu is pretty good; rated for 150A, which wouldn't surprise me. It looks a lot bigger than any "4awg" I've seen locally.
