wierd problem with "punching bass" (chain hang low)

in the intro of chain hang low the part where its just punching the bass right quick during the melody my sub sounds wierd??

its not bottoming out , nor clipping, but it just sounds wierd and its got alot of excursion for a high sounding note (box tuned to 35 hz 38 sq inches of port for 2.5 cubes after displacement)

any other song it sounds fine... bass heavy songs like gucci mane, young joc, young jeezy, rich boy all sound fine... its just the quick punch bass that sounds wierd... think its just an issue with the sub not being able to keep up?

ok, well it half way sounds like bottoming out, but its not because i know what that sounds like , extremly loud metal on metal sound , and you cant even hear this "wierd sound" once the trunk is closed... sounds completly fine in cabin

ya i just suppose its the sub not being able to keep up

k, just wanted to make sure i wasent hurting it ...

it was wierd because straight bass songs were completly fine, but when it came to punching bass it dident sound right at all

What you're describing is group delay and his group delay should not be anywhere near audible with that sub and enclosure.

Play a 55hz test tone and see if it sounds funny. That is where that frequency is centered. You may be clipping the amp and it's possible to hear it at those shorts bursts but not so much on longer, lower, notes. Also, listen for some odd rattles around 55hz that could be coming from your car. This would make things sound funny and it could sound like the sub since the note is so short.

nope not doing the same thing with a 55hz test tone, doesnt even sound the same compared to the short bursts in chain hang low , also the chain hang low song gives way more excursion than the 55hz test tone
