I do not think that federally funding elections and criminalizing any public donations would reduce the amount of influence over politicians, instead it would just create criminals out of everyone.

money will flow into politics, to think otherwise is naive. We would be best served by allowing it to flow freely while doing a diligent job of ensuring disclosure and transparency.

And the current "anything for a buck" system is better?

At least a publicly financed system would remove the politician from needing to **** up to those with money so the rest of us might (maybe) have a chance he'll listen to all of his constituents for a change.
