at the risk of sounding harsh, and i am not trying to minimize what the holocaust was and the effects that are still around for the survivors...
but since when is it the isreali governments responsibility to support the survivors? it was a geusture, and even if it was small, they should not be responsible to reach so deep into their pockets to try and correct some one elses doings.

They did squander the 80 billion that Germany paid them for reparations on things other than supporting the survivors. They had money given to them for it and spent it on weapons -- so they should be held responsible for that. Besides... Israel was created by the UN for the Jews as a result of the Holocaust -- one would imagine a state set up for that purpose would keep it high on their list of priorities to support those for whom the state was created.
