Why is the ugly sound on ported box??

I have a Rockford Fosgate Power Hx2 sub (2000W) and while I buy another box, I tried a Q-logic box I have of 1.25cubic ft. you can use port or sealed in the same box.... I had it with the port and it sounded terrible and when I sealed it sounds better but not loud enough... Do you think it is because of the box... and if I get a bigger box ported will it sound as terrible as the 1.25ft or will it sound better?

you need to build your OWN box to the specs it was made for...

They are selling me a ported box 2.3ft on a shop supposibly a good box for my sub and it is ported and tunned to the sub specs... but I'm afraid it will sound bad... I was thinking on getting a sealed better but most of the people say that you get more bass on a ported than on a sealed... so I don't know what to do....???

you pay somone to design your box from the forum.and build it yourself and if you dont have tools then pay somone on teh forums to build it for you.

EDIT: didnt see u said your having a box built.If it doesnt sound good sell the and get a new one

Rockford Fosgate recommends 2.0ft ported tuned at 40hz... the one i'm getting is 2.3 at 35hz will that be fine?
