Why is it most local audio places carry low end?

Not completly true, U can carry just all high end brands, but u have to make areally good name for urself. A local shop by my house doesnt carry anything below Arc. They have Arc, Morel, DLS, Helix, Brax, RE, ID, Tru Tech, and some other ones I cant think of off the top of my head. They have a really good rep of doing extremely well installs, just u get what u pay for, so they cost alot. But Its a great shop and they carry only high end and they do very well. But than again I live in So Cal, so more people with money.
like i said more involved as in. yes making a good name. etc.

In my opinion, I think a general audio shop should use lines to hit the spectrum. If I was gonna do a shop I would carry a line like Kenwood or pioneer or Alpine, some company that makes a wise spead of products ie. head units, speakers amps etc. I would also have a higher end deck company like Nak or Eclipse for my high end customers. For high end speakers my choice is Focal, you can have focal at 300 bux and focal for 2500 bux, so you have high end customers to buy high end gear. And then you also have lowend customers who want high end gear and hence the 300 dollar range. I think you need to hit both ends of the spectrum but rarely can you sustain yourself on just high end.

Kicker and Memphis aren't really low end but they have different lines within and he has the cheaper end of the lower end //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Good to see another Broncos fan in here! We are going to kick the shit out of those 4-0 Ravens Monday Night. That's as long as Jake plays like he should.

Its cheaper to stock and easier to move. Territory restrictions also apply to higher end products as mentioned above. If theres already a local dealer, then they are protected from having another one close by.

Although nowadays most manufacturers dont require large buyins or for even to keep it on the shelves. So rather than stock $800 amps, they can be ordered on a one by one basis. Of course If the customer is willing to wait.

If he is interested in picking up some higher lines shoot me a PM and Ill give ya my number...I know the rep for his area VERY well. This would include..

Arc

Cascade

Dynaudio

DLS

Genesis

Morel

Rainbow

Tru

That is a excellent question and there have been alot of good responses. I am fortunante enough to live in a area where we have eveything more or less. Low and high end so to speak. I have allways be into car audio, but a few years ago when I really started wanting to spend Money on this stuff, I stated to do my homework. When looking for information I went into these higher end audio shops and when I looked the prices for the gear, I about fell on the floor. I knew I would be getting some of that one day but not at that time. There are alot of people on here, well most of us, that are very serious about sound and our gear, but the truth is a majority of the general public is not ready for all of this. They want decent sound for a decent price and are not into all of the sq, spl stuff. To much time, money tweeking ect... So in order to sell you have to hit a majority of the target shopper, thus we are left with what is out there. WE have this forum to help us in our serch for the type of stuff that we are looking for and that is a good thing.

Everything posted here is correct. I would love to sell Focal, MB Quart, Audison, Zapco and other high end brands but usually when people walk in the store...they want the cheapest thing possible or either they go to wal mart and buy sony xplod. It isn't as much of a fact that they don't want to carry high end stuff, but it is the fact that they CAN'T. The problem is that the longer amount of time a product sits on the shelf, the more you are losing for having it there. And like someone else said, Kicker is not low end. I don't know if you have ever listened to their SS component sets when installed correctly and their SX amps but they are wonderful. I honestly think bang for the buck they are the best audio line out right now. As for Fosgate...I've had too many problems with their stuff. Woofers shipped to me with magnets falling off and so forth. They have gone downhill in the past few years but hopefully are going to make a comeback.

Bottom line is...to have a successful shop, you have to carry what the customer wants.

Just dropped my car off to have the M-6's installed. I asked about the high end stuff and he wasn't interested. He said he doesn't have but about one customer a year asking for it. To each their own.

Does anyone think that maybe the consumer that wants the serious high end stuff might have enough knowledge and experience to DIY? This doesnt mean they cant buy it at the shop and do the install, but most people go to a shop to buy it there and have it installed there. Just a thought.
