Why does my W7 sound like Poo?

This is the only pic I'm confused on. It looks like to port wall is not flush with the edge of the box. Like he cut it to short and it's now .75" in from the edge.

That's just ghetto, no harm...

From this angle the port seems to have enough clearance.

Everything was sealed up with liquid nails. Rather than silicon. This will not effect performance, but may yield problems in the long term aspect.

Other than the port I'm confused on, and it being a poorly constructed box I see no major issues. I would need the box dimmensions and port dimmensions to verify volume and tunning.

I heard 13 w7s are only good in sealed applications, becuase thats just that. If u want ported should of gotten a 12.

Squeak; Care to back those up with logic?
You don't want your sub to play in to the 100+ frequency range. Most drivers do not handle upper frequencys well. They were designed for the sole intent of sub frequencys. Playing freq. above a certain range will decrease the accuracy and SQ of the driver.

Wiring for a higher impedance will only yield less power. ZERO sound changes will be present.

box looks like it's built like poo... the way jl tells you to build the box, is with a port that is in an L shape starting at the bottom of the box... IMO this box is probably the problem... looks like it has been built poorly

Sure;

You're statements were totally illogical.

There, done //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Highpassing a subwoofer located in the rear of the vehicle @ 150hz is just retarded. There are very few experienced installers who could do that and make it still sound good. There are very few instances were a rear mounted subwoofer should be crossed above 80-85hz. Much less 150. That'd sound absolutley horrible.

And saying that an amp's THD is the problem is right up there aswell. It is designed to operate in a linear (read: low distortion) manor at such an impedance. Will THD rise above it's 4ohm rated figure? Sure will. Will it be audible? If it is, take the amp back because it's broke.

The subwoofer itself will have far more distortion than the amp. The box will also have a far greater impact than the amp. Period.

length is 26 innter port wall 19 depth 14 height 12 port opening 2 and the port heading back seems like 12.25 inchs. IF that helps. plz

My initial interpretation of the problem wasn't that there was distortion, it was that the bass is muddy and disconnected from the rest of the music; Indicating that he's missing a range of frequencies. That, coupled with the 6x9 coaxials, makes me wonder if it's his perception, and not neccesarily a problem with the w7.

Then I re-read, I must've crossed this idea with an idea from another thread;

sounds that dont sound natrual and seems like the sub is vibrating or something it sounds weird. i tested both coils and they were dead on.
So color me pwned, I was chasing the wrong tail.

And hey, passing a sub above 80 isn't a terrible thing to do, IMO. My interior speakers just aren't loud enough at those frequencies, (80+ -> 150) so I think it's a fine way to compensate;

Then again, that's what *I* think sounds good, and that's in *my* environment, on my setup. I face my box forward, you face yours to the rear.

Anyway, what's the likelyhood this individual has the 80+ frequencies covered to his satisfaction "at high volumes"?

Again, *I* would think _that_ sounds like shit.

Then the problem isn't the sub or the settings.....is the lack of quality midbass/range speakers //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Proper way to fix that is to upgrade the interior speakers, not to bump the sub's xover all the way up to 150hz //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

And yes; crossing a sub at 150hz is a terrible thing in most installs.
