Why do guitars sound distorted so fast on the system?

Try the crossover settings? lol I can play Metallica and hear fingers sliding - its crystal clear. Better recording perhaps too? In fact its so clear I can hear Kenny-G catch his breath when he isnt doing circular breathing lol.
Seriously, how high is the mid gains and mid on the xover?
I think the mid is crossed over at 80 on the head unit. Slope of 24.

I like most of the answers in this thread. I think it is a combination of them all.
I don't t think it's possible to get metal to sound really clean like Rap. Maybe i am just expecting too much. Also, having a nice system can exploit the flaws in music much better than a worst system.
you don't have a nice system //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif stop acting like it.

jk. but really, theres something wrong somewhere in your system. probably the gains. because I can play rock music perfectly fine without any distortion. depending how high your lowpass is set for your subs, it could be the culprit. IF you have a ported box, then it could not play higher frequencies clearly. and obviously metal songs have higher bass.

but seriously, your expecting to get sq out of hype aarrrhh's?

If it's the system in your sig/pics, i bet you have some serious imaging problems(i.e, over dominant rear stage) . And you could benefit from cleaner comp amps if you are trying to get less distorted full-range sound.
