why are sub inaccurate?

what makes one sub less accurate than another? accurate may not be the correct term but i'm sure you know what i'm talking about... theoretically it seems that every sub should output the signal that is input... but that doesnt allways seem to be the case... is this purely because of the enclosure?

i know what your saying. it seems like that any sub no matter the make or model would play say a 30hz tone the same, meaning all subs would sound the same. but thats like having 2 identical cars coming off the assembly line. 1 is going to have differences than the other and so on.

This is a very wide-ranging topic (and certainly not limited to just subs). There are so many factors that it can be challenging to understand.

First, let's identify what type of inaccuracy you are referring to. Are we speaking of distortion based inaccuracy (which includes many factors) or are we talking about a perceived "sloppiness"? Perhaps we are talking about both. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Some subs have less magic smoke bottled up in the voice coil. Subs with less magic smoke tend to be more accurate because since they are less densely packed, the motor can attract each one with greater force during transients. But voice coils with more magic smoke are more densely packed, and tend to be louder on single notes. In other words, anyone who understands voice coils and shit should know this.

But one thing holds true, you let the smoke out and it don't work... The biger it is the more smoke you can let out before it dosen't work.

more sloppiness... but might as well say both... some subs just don't sound good

exactly! except i'm not talking about 2 subs of the same line, i'm talking different lines... it seems that if a sub was playing 30hz its allways going to sound the same, just different volumes, as another sub but it's nt so, so is the sub actually distorting the signal so that it is not actually playing 30 hz
