whos smart about 16v setups?

Once your alt turns on the charging voltage is fine, so what's the problem?

The only reason your front battery is going down to 12.4 is because the alt isn't charging and the car is running off the battery.

This would hold true even if you weren't running 16 volts and your alt didn't turn on at low RPM.

What brand is the stepdown module? I know the powermaster ones have two options for how low you want the voltage to drop.

so this can be happening cause my 16v battery needs changing and my 12v does not?

this would make sense cause the 16v barrtey hasnt been charged in about 5 months

I have whats called a 16v tap...... two 2v cells wired in series to the 12v battery

I have a step down but after reading I found that they are not that reliable. I have 10 powermaster 16v's in the trunk and i think I am going to get a HC16V for under the hood since it has a 12v post on it. The step down's generate alot of heat and they spike to much. With the poermaster one you can drop the voltage either 2.6 or 3.4 volts

well i found my problem. I dont have a step down but it acts as one. i have what u call a 16v tap but found out i need to match resistance of the batteries so itll work properly

Thats very odd, I just feel better using a three post 16v bat
How do discharge from the fourth cell(i.e. one between 12v-16v) when using the 3post? Answer: you dont, that cell is overcharged and eventually causes battery failure, unless you have something drawing from the 16v post you are going to have a problem. Post a thread and get experiences if you dont believe me.
