who still uses an equalizer

My Kicker KQ 9 crapped out on me so I have to purchase another equalizer/crossover. Instead of getting another KQ 9, I am going to get the Audiocontrol 3.1 because it has complete subwoofer control, high pass crossovers for the front and rear and it is an award winning proven product. Plus I would rather have a knob than the old style dials.

First of all an EQ is only going to be as good as the rest of the system (signal chain). Garbage in, garbage out.

Second of all, EQs are for adjusting the system to make up for the challenging acoustic environment that is your vehicle's interior. In a perfect world you would NOT need an EQ.

Thirdly, if you find yourself BOOSTING bands then you have a lot of problems. In a proper setup you will find yourself lowering peaks...........NOT boosting valleys.

I personally believe that an SQ system needs an EQ of some sort because no interior of a vehicle is acoustically ideal for music. That being said I use a 31 band EQ via the P9 combo. All processing is done in the digital domain, as well as the x-over network. This eliminates a lot of A/D and D/A conversion. That is NOT to say that outboard EQs can't sound amazing. I remember running a PPI DEQ-230. Great sounding unit.

I agree with you Adam71. Equalizers are not as necessary because the signals are coming from cds or ipods. Back in the day they were really necessary because the signals were coming from cassette tapes. I wish I would have left the Kicker KQ 9 that I had in the truck but things happen for a reason. Now I can get one of the best in dash equalizers out the Audiocontrol 3.1. My audiocontrol is coming in tomorrow and I know it will help enhance and already good system.

i have a AC four.1, can't bother going through all these **** menus on the Alpine 9835, and the AC Four.1 sounds much better. Not sure why people want the Three.1, when amps have built in crossovers. I would think the way to go would be a AC Four.1 not Three.1

It was a success. I finished putting in the Audiocontrol 3.1 in the truck this morning and it sounded great. Without the equalizer in the truck it felt like there was something missing in my system. Now I have it back.

An eq capable of adjusting left and rught channels separately is what you should look for, but that's not for amateurs.

If I didn't have the h701, I'd prob go with the alpine 9835 with an audio control dqs. 3way xover, 6 channel t-corr, and 6 channel 30 band eq. Almost everything u need except phase which can be done via speaker wire.

Interesting how your shop/installer would say you don't need it. Yes u don't need it, but it sure can help a lot if you know what to do with it. I would've expected some sales pitch about EQs.

That's what I get for listening to the shop installer. I drove the truck around for a half an hour today and it took a while to notice the difference. Again, the music was clear before but it wasn't clean and didn't have the separation. When I turned up the music a little louder, the separation and crispness was there. I didn't know what the hell I was thinking about taking the eq out of my car the first time. I used an eq for years and years. I made sure that when I put one back in that I went top of the line.

Told you. Those EQ insides are better than most HU EQ's, even if the HU has more bands of adjustment. I'm not suprised about the installer. I've talked to some super stupid installers a few times.
