who still uses an equalizer

Over the last 7 years I have been using an equalizer in my system and my sounds had great separation and were crystal clear. A few installers recommended to me to not use an equalizer because of today's technology and changes with sounds. Out of curiousity, how many people in here still use an equalizer in their system? I had a Kicker IQ 900 for years and that thing was great. Do a lot of people still use in dash equalizers?

yes, but a lot of headunits have equalizers built in nowadays. Though i'm sure it still can't beat some in dash equalizers out there.

Most of the people who care about separation and clarity still use them, yes.

The average kid on the street who wants boom boom, no.

But yessir, if you're running a high end stereo, the EQ is still a great idea.

You could, possibly, conside rupgrading the EQ and other equiptment

Not really. Mos in dash equalizers are like 5-9 band graphic eqaulizers. Not the most useful when you think about it. Only adjusting a certain frequency...

A lot of HU's however do offer onboard equalization. I for one use the 5band parametric on my Alpine 9835. I can choose the center frequency, the Q, and the attenuation/boost.

i still use them but their are better eqs like 30 bands for more sq type installs

IMO, indash eq's sound better. I'm not using one right now, but I have a 7 band parametric waiting to be hooked up. An Audiocontrol Three.1 sounds way better than any Pioneer Hu with a 13-band eq, but people get caught up because one has 13-bands vs. 3 to 4 bands on the Audiocontrol. They automatically assume the one with 13-bands is better. Cleansoundz you're most likely going to feel like your overall sound is lacking if you unhook that eq.

i have an indash. its a 5.1 channel. has a mid channel out put, and its a 7 volt line drive.

I also run a 13 band eql. I like the adjustment capabilities of them.

i love my 30 band eq... took a little while to get it tuned right but with the help of an RTA it sounds great.. actually it doesnt sound *much* different without it but gets rid of some nasty peaks

usually going digital is the best cleanes option. but its ganna cost more

That ALONE makes a HUGE difference, IMO.

I will be running a 5 or 7 soon also with 7 to 12v line out...all worth it in the end...

I use my old ARC PEQ-7...because its alot easier to reach for a knob thats always there than to navigate through 15 fvcking menus to get to the built-in eq which Ill have to look at while driving to see what Im doing...I can adjust the in-dash without ever having to take my eyes off the road

Thats one of ther main reason I got my new deck, for its 7 band equalizer, and got rid of my Phase Linear UV8, it only had 3........Which was okay because it was a flip out and a touch screen. But installing my new one made me notice how much my SQ sucked. But It would sound like its still am investment.

I unhooked my faithful Kicker KQ 9 that I had running for years and years because an installer said it wasn't needed. However, the separation in my sounds is not what it was. When I turn the bass up the mids were not as clear as they were. With the KQ 9 in had a built in 100hz high pass equalizer and excellent low pass settings for my subwoofer. In the past you could hear me a block away and hear every single word as I was pulling up. Not as much anymore. Something told me to hold on to my KQ 9 and I listened so it was in the garage just as clean as ever. I do not have to be at work until 12:30pm tomorrow, in goes the KQ 9 and back comes that detailed clarity and separation that I miss so much. I guess that is a reason why equalizers of all types are still sold.
